Caleb’s first week of MTC
This is the first picture we got of Caleb! ❤️ This is his room he shares it with 3 other missionaries. They have a bathroom and shower to share between all four of them. Caleb is on the bottom bunk.
My mom knows a lady who knows a lady who serves at the Ghana MTC and she found Caleb and took a picture and sent it!
Caleb and his companion Elder Brans Christensen. They saw each other the first day and recognized each other and figured out they were in the same group at FSY a couple years ago! Then we found out later that he is best friends with a girl on Cambri’s soccer team’s brother! It is so cool how many connections they have! The Lord is in the details😊. Caleb loves his companion. They get all get along great. All of the missionaries in his room are from Utah.
I heard about the Ghana MTC Facebook page and found these pictures of Caleb!
This is Caleb getting his missionary tag❤️.
This was his first call home Aug 3rd 😁! It was 7am our time and 1pm his time!
You can see Moroni from the MTC!
Soccer field and volleyball.
These are the missionaries on fast Sunday, they are all ready to eat!
Pretty sky!
These are the water bottles they get at the MTC they have to get their water from jugs. But this elder put hot water in his water bottle and it melted!
A hallway at the MTC.
Trip to the Temple. There is a gate surrounding the MTC and the temple is inside that gate as well. So it’s super close!
Class time!
Food at the MTC does not agree with the American’s digestive system! Hopefully it gets better. This is what they get basically everyday! Mango drink. The pineapple is small and white. Some kind of chicken. Noodles and rice which they have found fish bones in!
Caleb is on the bottom bunk. The AC works great and he is actually cold!
He took a screen shot of where he is at.
The MTC is nice!
His email from this week:
Hey everyone!
Hey everyone!
This week has been full of classes, almost non stop. They are still in English, luckily, but Friday we switched to all French. We have been practicing our French a bit, and most of us are excited to learn French. Most of our classes focus on Preach My Gospel and how to share the gospel in an effective way.
Sunday is our favorite day. We have our branch sacrament meeting, priesthood class, and then a district class. Me and my companion taught the district lesson. After lunch they give us time to just sit and watch some Book of Mormon videos.
Then we went on a temple walk. One of the senior couples there will take two branches and go on a walk around the Accra Temple. We would walk around and then they would take pictures of us. I would show you guys the pictures, but they refuse to give them to us until after the mtc departure video. (The pictures below were from a previous temple trip) The temple was so pretty though.
After we went to a devotional from the MTC president. Whenever he speaks the whole mtc gets excited. He shared a lot of stories but this was my favorite:
He was a mission president in Tennessee when two missionaries asked to go to lunch. He took them to lunch. Their waitress was really nice and they were about to share the gospel with her before they left. She was wearing two necklaces with little kids on them. He asked her if those were her kids. She shared that they were, but one died at birth. He asked if she thought she would be able to see the one kid again. She shared that she thought so, but every preacher she went to said they were lost. He asked if the missionaries could come over and teach her. A few weeks later she asked him to baptize her. He shared how God puts us in other people's paths, and we have to be ready to share what the Spirit tells us to.
We also watched The Testaments in the auditorium. It was nice sitting down and watching a movie.
The food is still the exact same, which is good and bad. The weather is so nice. It's always humid, and it's only 70-80 degrees and usually cloudy. Unfortunately we're kind of stuck inside so we can't enjoy it much.
During the devotional there was one thing the MTC president shared. He said, "uncover your sins, be the chosen, and walk with God." He shared that we all make mistakes, but as we sincerely repent and try to be like Christ, we will have the power to bless people's lives and bring them the gospel.

Tues-Sat email leaving.
This last week has been crazy, long, sad, and a lot of fun. I left last Tuesday for the Ghana MTC. There were about 10 of us on the plane, and 8 of us were going to the same mission. We first went to Paris, which was a 10 hour direct flight. I chose not to watch any videos since I didn't know what I could and couldn't watch. I also couldn't sleep well so for a lot of it I just gazed into space. We landed in Paris and then had a 6 hour layover. We spent time getting food and talking together.
The next flight was a 6.5 hour flight to Ghana. It wasn't bad since we were able to sleep for most of it. We landed in Ghana and then went to the MTC. It was 11pm when we got there on Wednesday, so they got us some really good pizza on the way.
Thursday we did all of the basic stuff. We got our tags, finished setting up our rooms, had a meeting with the MTC president, and met our companions. My companion is one of the guys in my FSY group two years ago. It was so crazy. We are going to the same mission.
Friday was our first day of classes. From Friday to Thursday we have had almost non stop classes. Our schedule has three meals, some gym time in the morning, and an hour of personal study in the afternoon. The classes are a little repetitive but really good.
We had one building meeting that was so fun. He is from Ghana and had the strongest and funniest personality. He would show different pictures of Elders rooms and then ask the sisters how to fix it in front of us. The Elders rooms would have clothes and books everywhere, and the Sisters rooms would be nice and clean. He would also say that the bigger Elder needs to sleep on the bottom bunk so that if he sleeps on the top bunk he doesn't end up on the bottom bunk in the morning. We were all laughing so hard.
We had a half P-Day on Saturday, but my companion is the district leader so we didn’t have time to do anything other than laundry. The food is basically chicken, rice, noodles, pineapple, and mangos. The grain foods like bread they have are sweet, and their chocolate is very bland. It is mostly pretty good though.
The travel felt like three days, and the weekend felt forever. Since then the time has started to go by very quick. I have enjoyed every minute of it and hangout out with other Elders is awesome. One quote that they mission president has shared with us is, “Adam fell that man might be, and Jesus rose that man might become.” Adam enabled us to die and live, but through Jesus Christ, we are able to live forever. I am excited to continue my MTC experience, learn French, and come closer to Jesus Christ.
