Week 38 1st zone conf. as zone leader
Cheese!
Caleb got an orange that was imported and it was delicious he said!
This is milk that they freeze in a bag. Then you just rip or bite a hole in it and suck it! Caleb busted me taking a picture hence the tongue! 😝
Pres Litchfield and elders with matching pagne ties!
Caleb, his companion Elder Yeboah and Ezekiel from Koute came to play soccer with them. Caleb never got to say goodbye to Ezekiel he was from his last sector so he was so happy to see him and gave Caleb a big hug.
Caleb, Ezekiel, Elder Yeboah, Caleb’s last companion Elder Motingoe. They had fun playing soccer for p day!
Caleb’s pagne ties from his last band of pagne he bought!
Elder Stucki got a Betty Crocker cake mix when he served in the Gambia (I guess they have better food) but he made it and put peanut butter on it. It was super sweet but oh so yummy!
River in the road from the rain.
Caleb went on exchanges. This is Elder Musa-Komeh.
The church building.
I love this picture of Caleb. The kids just love to pester "le blanc" the white!
He was traveling to Cocody for Zone Conference and they passed a skyscraper.
Rainy season.
His email from the week:
Salut
This week flew by, but went pretty well. On p-day we got our money for the week. We ran to the bank, which was far, and then hopped on a gbaka to get to the stake center where we played soccer. It was a lot of fun. I also got my ties which are jolies. Family home evening fell through because of Easter, so we walked around and visited some people.
Tuesday we had an unplanned appointment with this guy. He had a lot of questions about the technical details of the church and Book of Mormon. I explained everything and gave him all the details he asked for. When we started he seemed kind of cold, but as I talked with him and showed him how the church is now basically everywhere, I saw his countenance change, and he seemed so happy which was cool.
Tuesday night I started an exchange with Elder Musa-Komeh. We worked in their sector. His companion, Elder Stucki, had a birthday and made a cake. He got a Betty Crocker cake mix with some American peanut butter and made a frosting with it. It was heaven, it was so good. If you were wondering, he found them in the Gambia, not here.
The exchange was pretty good. Their sector wasn't great, but we had a few good lessons. I also did my first baptismal interview. I have never been a district leader, so I had never done one. But because the district leader was busy and I was on an exchange I did it. It wasn't perfect, but it was a cool experience.
Thursday was a chill day. We taught a lot Tuesday and Thursday, so we didn't find a single friend. But Saturday and Sunday were awesome and we were able to reach all of our key indicators.
Friday we headed to Cocody for our zone conference. Another zone was with us. It was my first zone conference as a zone leader. Luckily it wasn't stressful because Elder Beck knew what he was doing. President wasn't feeling good so he showed up an hour late, but we still started on time. We did a key indicators presentation. I had never done one so I didn't know what to say and my French gave out a bit, but it was a good experience. Luckily President hadn't shown up yet haha.
To get a taxi to Cocody was 4,000f. But to get a taxi from the office was hard. I didn't have a lot of time to wait because we had an appointment after zone conference, so we ordered a Yango. It's like an Uber. It was 7,300f which was ridiculously expensive, but that isn't something we can negotiate because we ordered it and accepted the price.
Saturday there was a stake ysa activity. It was to invite friends and then the missionaries could be there to introduce ourselves. It didn't really work like that because they only wanted to play soccer. They did start with a spiritual thought though. Although it wasn't great. He shared Jacob 6:12 and then 2 Nephi 9:54. I encourage you to go read these scriptures just to see, but basically he said “be wise and tomorrow I'll finish speaking, amen.”
Sunday was ward conference. A ton of people showed up which was awesome. I got a cold this week, but other than that nothing crazy happened. I did have a few weird experiences with people that did not like having white guys in their country…
This week should be pretty chill. We have an exchange planned and that's it.
Spiritual Thought:
For zone conference we talked about the light of Christ. It was really cool and we learned a lot about how all of us have this light in us. They shared a ton of scriptures, but I'll share a few:
Moroni 7:16: For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil.
D&C 11:28: Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world.
D&C 84:45-46: For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ. And the Spirit giveth light to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit.
I learned a lot and I invite you guys to go learn more about the light of Christ.
Thanks for your prayers, and I hope you guys have a great week.
