Week 64 Oct 20-26th Election voting

Monday call pic! I am so grateful Caleb has had no issues with the elections. The mission next to him in the Yamassoukro mission was on lock down for at least 6 days. Counting my blessings! Caleb continues to teach all day long!

His apartment window, birds just chilling.

This lady made these for him. They were almost like empanadas.

District council during his exchange.

Exchange with Elder Staker.

This is the Bishop's kid super cute. Caleb was trying to get a picture of him sitting still!

They got a new fridge delivered!

The church announced 55 new missions opening up next year! Two of them are in Caleb's mission. It also would take out The Gambia and Senegal out of his mission and make them their own but it won't happen until July of next year when Caleb leaves. But so exciting! Caleb said he got chills when he heard.

This is his mission boundaries now.

This is a zoom call of the mission president talking about the new missions. The first picture is the new missions the second is how it is now.

Elections...

Salut

This week was and is crazy! The police and military are all over the place, there are riots all the time, we are on lock down, we have no power or water, and very little food left…

Okay not really. That's what we were thinking could have happened this week because of elections, and it is currently like that in certain parts of Côte d'Ivoire, but here there is basically nothing. Everyone is just kind of scared and not many people are outside. But other than that, it's like nothing is happening.

Last p-day we went on a pagne hunt with the Cite Verte Elders. It was a lot of fun and we got some cool Baoulé amd Christmas pagne. P-Day night we went out and started an exchange with the Niangon Adjamé elders. I went with Elder Staker in Niangon Adjamé. We had a lot of fun. In the morning we went to their district council. In the afternoon we spent a lot of time contacting and were able to find a decent amount of friends. At the end we did a baptismal interview for the Cite Verte Elders.

Wednesday we were walking in sector when we saw a family gathered around. The family is half new members, half friends of the church. The parents just lost their son last week, and so they were gathered together to mourn. And the way they did that was by drinking alcohol. It was sad and kind of disappointing to see them drinking alcohol. They weren't expecting us, so when we went to say hi a couple of them acted guilty even though we didn't say anything.

Thursday we got a new fridge which was awesome. Friday we had a great day in sector. In the afternoon we found out that there would be 55 new missions created. Two of them are in Côte d'Ivoire, and another is the Senegal Dakar mission. If you don't know, Senegal and the Gambia are apart of our mission. I got the chills when I found out. It is really cool to see how West Africa is progressing, and how I get to be apart of it.

After we were contacting a bit. and I had the thought to visit this one friend. I doubted it because he works a lot. The thought came again, and so we went over to see if he was there. He was there with his wife and son which was a miracle. We talked with them and had a great time. This family is from Senegal and knows the missionaries extremely well. They led us out and walked with us for a bit. As we were walking we ran into the assistants and Elder Akunasha. The cool part is that this family knows Elder Bowles and Elder Akunasha really well. It was pretty cool.

Saturday was election day. It was extremely quiet everywhere. We did weekly planning in the morning, and then went out to sector in the afternoon because President said we could. We didn't do anything crazy, but we did have a couple lessons that went well.

Sunday we went to church. Because of the elections, the interregion told us we were only going to do one hour church. It went well except for our church building didn't have power, because one of the electrical cords in the wall was burning.

This week is the last week of the transfers, so next week I'll know if I'm transferred or not. This week should be chill, but we'll see.

Spiritual Thought:

Chad H Webb: “The gospel is not a list of demands; it’s the good news that Jesus Christ overcame sin and death.”

J. Annette Dennis: “His is not a gospel of checklists; it is a gospel of becoming—becoming as He is and loving as He does.”

I love these quotes from this general conference. When we teach our friends, usually we say how the gospel is faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. But the gospel is so much more than that. As we live the gospel everyday, and because of Jesus Christ, we can and will progress on an eternal path that will lead us to our Heavenly home where we can be like them.

Thanks for your prayers and I hope you guys have a wonderful week!
